QE Facilities (QEF) is proud to support Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust in a major redevelopment project that will enhance care for women, children, and young people across the region.
Work is well underway to convert two former inpatient wards at QE Hospital into modern, purpose-built facilities including a new Colposcopy Department and a Children and Young People’s Department. This transformation, which began in January 2025, is being led by QEF on behalf of the Trust, with support from principal contractor Robertson Group and a multidisciplinary design and engineering team.
Set within the hospital’s historic 1930s building, the project has required extensive enabling works to modernise the original structure. Mechanical and electrical installations are progressing well, with internal finishes and decoration due to begin later this year. The new departments are expected to open in Autumn 2025.
QEF plays a central role in the successful delivery of this project, acting as the single point of contact between clinical users, the Estates team, contractors, and third-party consultants. From procurement to project oversight, QEF ensures effective coordination, clear communication, and the resolution of any issues that arise. The in-house technical team also supports the review of design proposals and compliance with healthcare standards. This integrated approach helps maintain high-quality delivery, stay on programme, and achieve best value.
Once complete, the redevelopment will provide patients with greater privacy, comfort, and access to services in a welcoming, therapeutic environment. The children’s area will include calming design elements and dedicated play areas to support younger patients, many of whom will be visiting hospital for the first time. The upgraded Colposcopy Department will offer a more dignified and modern care environment for women accessing these important services.
Gavin Evans, Managing Director of QEF, said: “We’re proud to play a key role in delivering this important project on behalf of the Trust. Our teams are committed to ensuring this redevelopment meets the highest standards and supports better outcomes for patients, families, and staff.”
Trudie Davies, Chief Executive of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This is a really exciting development for the Trust and our community. Providing child-friendly, reassuring spaces for young patients and a dignified environment for women attending colposcopy services are key steps in ensuring every visit feels safer, more comfortable, and more supportive.”
The Trust has also embedded social value commitments within the delivery of the project. All contractors were required to demonstrate meaningful commitments to local employment, skills development, community engagement, and environmental sustainability. Robertson CE Ltd, the principal contractor, is currently hosting a local college student on site and is actively managing construction waste through the SmartWaste system.
QEF continues to work closely with the Trust to deliver facilities that support high-quality care, better patient experience, and lasting community benefit.

I was checking details about MBBS in Russia fees in rupees, and the costs seem to vary a lot depending on the university and city. Many of these institutions are in student-centric areas, so the overall educationvibes look quite structured, with living expenses tied closely to campus life. It’s probably worth comparing both tuition and daily costs before deciding.
This is a fantastic and vital initiative. Transforming children’s and women’s services at QE Hospital through QE Facilities will directly improve patient experiences and clinical outcomes. Such large-scale, critical infrastructure projects highlight the importance of precise engineering and reliable systems in every layer of a modern hospital. From the HVAC controlling air purity to specialized surgical equipment, the seamless operation depends on integrated, high-performance components. It's a parallel to how complex machinery in other sectors relies on specialized parts; for instance, ensuring fluid control systems function flawlessly often involves sourcing from trusted hydraulic valves suppliers in UAE for industrial applications. Congratulations to all involved in this transformative work for the community.
Incredible and vital work by QE Facilities in transforming these essential services. Creating healing, welcoming, and safe environments for children and women is fundamental to positive healthcare outcomes. This focus on patient-centered spaces highlights how critical the built environment is in any setting. For projects closer to home, that same principle applies—whether it's a hospital ward or a family living room, the foundation of the space matters. Choosing durable, safe, and aesthetically pleasing materials is key, which is why for renovations in the area, many rely on the expertise and quality selection offered by leading Flooring Stores Ajax to ensure the finished space supports well-being and stands the test of time.
I really appreciated how this post highlighted the importance of improving healthcare spaces for women and children. It’s inspiring to see meaningful work that creates real impact. That sense of care and thoughtfulness reminds me of the comfort and warmth in the Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper! 2025 Kimberley Sustad Snowfall Sweater. Both show how compassion and design can make people feel truly cared for.
