QEF Catering Services

As part of QEF Ltd, Catering Services provide a full range of patient and staff meals to the trust and also to the Northumberland, Tyne and wear NHS Trust. Annually over 611,000 meals are produced for patients (including day patients) with a two week multi-choice menus that include special diet and multi-cultural needs. The service is based on the popular ‘cook chill’ method of catering by employing traditional chefs using quality fresh local ingredients and only from NHS approved suppliers. A wide range of tasty dishes as well as five star hygiene standards contribute to the excellent reputation the service is known for.

 

Working closely with our dietitians our menus have been carefully designed with appetising and nutritious food to suit all needs. The Trust follows a healthy eating policy which encourages everyone to:

 

  • Choose a wide variety of foods

  • Aim to eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetable daily

  • Base meals on starchy foods such as bread, rice, potatoes and cereal

  • Try to reduce your total fat intake

  • Cut down on salt and sugar intakes

  • Encourage drinking water and ‘stay hydrated’

 

Staff, visitors, and the general public enjoy the warm welcome and wide range of services on offer throughout the three dining areas, the main one being ‘Quenellies’ based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The department also serves a comprehensive selection of hospitality and function menus for formal and official visitors.

 

All of this though is only possible due to the hardworking and professional team that we have within the department.
