Our Domestics Team

Our challenge is efficiently managing an enormous range of environments – and each comes with its own cleaning specification, infection control environment, and level of urgency.  

As our Trust increases in efficiency, productivity, and improvement of care, our challenge isn’t just keeping pace with a high volume of routine and ad hoc work, it’s doing so without ever treating cleanliness as a box-ticking exercise.  

We know that patients, visitors, and clinical staff all depend on us, and dignity and patient experience matter just as much as compliance with national standards does. 

Over the years, we have worked in close partnership with clinical colleagues, rather than alongside them – a distinction that shapes everything we do; from how shifts are planned, to how each of us approach patient interaction.  

We treat training compliance as a continuous discipline rather than an annual target, sustained at 85% throughout the year to make sure we all have the knowledge and skills to deliver safe, effective services.  

We invested in the roll out of Inivos Hydrogen Peroxide Vapour (HPV) decontamination technology to ensure the most efficient and effective cleaning of spaces, and we decided to run regular audits and review robust supervision to allow our team to respond to as many ad hoc cleaning tasks without standards slipping under pressure.  

As a result of our innovative, people-focused approach, in 2025/26, we achieved:  

• 17,475 ad hoc cleaning tasks completed 
• 980 Inivos HPV deployment cycles carried out 
• 2 apprenticeships completed 
• GHNFT STAR Award for Patient Experience – awarded for one of the highest levels of positive patient recommendation in the Trust 
• 85% training compliance maintained through the year
